Character Cookies: Make, Bake, Decorate!

Discover how to make, bake and decorate a treat in the shape your favorite characters on this episode of Hobby Hunting. Thanks to Crestah’s Cookies for showing us how!

Cookie Recipe:

1 cup unsalted butter
1.5 cups powdered sugar
2 tsp flavoring of your choice
1 egg
2.5 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp salt
2 tsp baking powder

Directions

Cream butter, sugar, and flavoring together. Add in an egg and mix well. Combine flour, salt, and baking powder, then slowly combine until dough forms. Roll out the dough and cut out your cookies using cookie cutters. Place onto a pan with parchment paper, and bake at 350 degrees for 8 minutes. Allow for them to cool off completely before icing them!

Icing Recipe:

4 cups powdered sugar
1 tbsp meringue powder
1 tsp flavoring of your choice
3/4 cup water

Directions

Combine all ingredients in a bowl and mix well. Separate the icing into smaller bowls and add different food coloring to desired brightness. Add into piping bags (or plastic sandwich bags), cut a small hole in the corner, and begin piping!

Icing Instructions

Begin by outline your cookie, and filling in the background. It is VERY important that you allow this layer to dry completely so that your top layer does not sink into the bottom layer. This may take 3o minutes-1 hour to fully set up. Once it is hard to the touch, begin by adding your character’s eyes, nose and mouth. Allow to dry completely, and then add the remaining details.

Finally, enjoy your delicious character cookies! A big thank you to Crestah’s Cookies for sharing her talent and this easy-to-do recipe that anyone can do!
