Here’s The How-To
Step 1: Layout the pinecones on the table (or you can put them on a paper towel if desired to prevent oil from getting on the table).
Step 2: Choose what essential oils you want to use on the pinecones. Winter and floral scents work especially well.
Step 3: Put 4 to 6 drops of the essential oil or oils of your choice on your pinecones. Don’t use more or the smell will be too strong! Repeat with the rest of the pinecones. (Pro Tip: You can use the same essential oil throughout or mix it up!)
Step 4: Once you have put oil on all the pinecones, put them into a gallon-sized Ziploc bag and leave them in it for 24 hours. Then voila! You have scented pinecones you can put in a cute container to help give your home a great smell!
Pinecones Found Outside
(first few steps come from https://www.apartmenttherapy.com/diy-scented-holiday-pinecones-225986)
Step 1: Rinse the pinecones you found outside to get rid of the dirt and bugs.
Step 2: After rinsing, put the pinecones medium-sized bowl of water and let them soak for one hour. The pinecones will float in the bowl so, to ensure they are soaked, place a small plate on top of the bowl of water to weigh them down.
Step 3: While the pinecones are soaking, set your preheat your oven to 200 degrees (F).
Step 4: Put a piece of aluminum foil on a baking sheet and place the pinecones on the foil-lined baking sheet and let them bake for 30 minutes. This will help destroy any bugs or other outside life that might have survived the rinse and it will help the cones open back up.
Step 5: Once the pinecones have cooled completely, add 4 to 6 drops of essential oils to each one and put them in a gallon-sized Ziploc bag. Let them sit in the sealed bag for 24 hours and then voila! Scented pinecones!
