O the Owl Bird Feeder

Inspired by: Juice Carton Crafts: Owl Bird Feeder – Red Ted Art – Make crafting with kids easy & fun

You can make your very own O the Owl bird feeder using some craft supplies and a carton of your favorite juice, milk, or other drink! This activity is one that the whole family can enjoy doing together.

Materials You Will Need:
  • One clean empty carton
  • Blue enamel paint
  • Craft knife
  • Green bottle caps
  • Hot glue gun
  • Scissors
  • An orange marker, colored pencil, or crayon
  • A popsicle stick
  • Googly eyes
  • A paintbrush

Step By Step Instructions:

Step One: Paint your carton with the blue enamel paint. You will probably need two layers of paint.

Step Two: While your first layer of paint dries, glue your bottle caps and googly eyes together.

Step Three: After your first layer of paint dries, paint a second layer. While you wait for the paint to dry, observe some birds outside of your home with your family! Which ones do you see? Do you recognize any types of birds?

Step Four: Cut out a place in O’s tummy for your backyard friends using a craft knife. You can use a pencil or marker to trace the shape.

Step Five: Take the extra piece of carton and trace a triangle. This will be O’s beak. Be sure it’s not too big and not too small. Cut out and color the beak orange.

Step six: Hot glue O’s eyes and beak to the top of the carton and a popsicle stick on the bottom of the carton so your bird friends have a place to rest!

All done! You can punch a hole in the top of the carton and attach a string, or use a clothespin and some string to hang your new bird feeder outside.

Fill it with bird seed, and observe your bird feeder. Are the birds you saw earlier visiting O? What’s it like to see them up close? Be sure to do some research on your visitors to learn more about them!
