Sneak Peek: Imagine Your Story Virtual Summer Camp

ThinkTV and CET are excited to host our first-ever virtual summer camp in partnership with the Dayton Metro Library called “Imagine Your Story.” The camp runs July 13 through July 17 and our videos will premiere on Facebook at 10am – and then be available on our website – each day! The camp is free — no RSVP required!
“It’s so important for kids to keep reading and learning during the summer months. This year, when so many reading and enrichment camps are closed, we thought it would be fun to bring a camp program to kids while they are staying safe at home,” says CET/ThinkTV Chief Education Officer Gloria Skurski.
Our “Imagine Your Story” summer camp will feature virtual field trips to the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery, the Dayton Art Institute, Carillon Park, Five Rivers MetroParks and the Dayton Performing Arts Alliance along with a daily trip to the Dayton Metro Library! Kids will get to read books with Miss Winnie at the main library branch, go on virtual fieldtrips, do crafts, have singalongs and much more.
See what we have in store for your children’s virtual field trips below:
Monday: Animals
Watch as a Boonshoft Museum of Discovery naturalist shows us one of the many animals in the museum and learn how to make a birdfeeder from materials lying around the house! In addition, read a book with Miss Winnie, visit with some pandas, and much more!
Tuesday: Colors
We will be going to the Dayton Art Institute to see how two different artists use color in their paintings. Then we will go to the children’s area and learn how to weave colors together in a craft you can do at home. We will read a storybook about a crayon, learn a fun way to play hide-and-seek, and sing a famous folk song!
Wednesday: Planes and Trains
We are heading over to Carillon Park, where Brady Kress shows us the original Wright B flyer, the first practical airplane built by the Wright Brothers. He also shows us trains, cabooses, trolley cars, and an engine that is more than 150 years old. We’ll read a storybook about an amazing plane ride, and then take a trip up in a hot air balloon! Finally, our music counselor, Mr. Mark, brings out his banjo and sings along with us to an old camp favorite.
Thursday: Bugs and Other Creatures
A Five Rivers MetroParks naturalist takes us on an exploration of a creek in the Germantown Metro Park to see what kinds of creatures live in the water and under the rocks. Miss Winnie at the Dayton Metro Library reads us a storybook about bugs, and then we learn about all different kinds of insects. We’ll make a fun snack, learn about paw paws, and then sing along to an old folk song with Mr. Mark.
Friday: Music
This day is all about music! Neal Gittleman, Conductor of the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra, introduces us to the four basic groups of instruments in an orchestra. Musicians playing instruments from all four groups join in playing Ohio’s official rock song, Hang On Sloopy. We’ll read a storybook about a violin and his friends; have a dance party; and finish up the week by singing a favorite camp song.
